Getting your content ready for sale is easy. At first it may seem a bit time consuming, but you'll just get faster and faster at it.

For each piece of video content:
1) Format it in several different formats, following our guidelines below.
2) Format your thumbnail and 2 screenshots.
3) Prepare your description, price and details.
4) Upload your other versions to match more mobile phones.
5) Lather, rinse and repeat!
PS: You must own the copyright to any of the content you plan to sell.

We suggest you print off this guide to have beside you while you format your video for the site.

Step 1 - Format your video file

Formats:
.3GP, .3GP2, .WMV, .RM, .MPG, .MPEG, .AVI, .MP4
Max. file size: 5 MB
Resolution: 320px by 240px or smaller.
Length of video: Under 2 minutes long
Tip - Most phones will resize your video to fit their screens.
Tip - We recommend creating at least two formats to start with .3GP and .MP4
Tip - Remember to save your file with a meaningful name. This will make it easier to find the file in a list.
Tip - Need to change your video into different formats and don't have the software? Try using Zamzar, an online tool that will convert for you.

Step 2 - Format your thumbnail and screenshots

Your thumbnail image will display as a preview icon for your video file.
Thumbnail dimensions: 133px by 133px. If you don't upload a thumbnail, we'll use a placeholder image. However, a good quality still of your video will help your sales by making your content unique.

Grab two screenshots of your video - these will display along with your thumbnail

Screenshot dimensions: 133px by 133px.
Tip - uploading screenshots will help your buyer make a decision about purchasing your video, so remember to pick shots that represent your video well.

Step 3 - Prepare your description, price and details

You must provide these details:
Title - what it's called

Description - A full and complete description helps buyers make decisions about buying. Think about adding a description that captures what you're selling.

Tags - a series of keywords; this is how buyers will find your item in a search.
Tip - separate your tags with a space, eg. "Golf green hit". To join two words together in one tag use double quotes, eg. "Golf ball".

Price - you need to price your content in a single currency. If you choose US$, all your items must be priced in US$.
However, you can opt to have your content item appear at a specific price in a specific currency that is not your default by using the "Add Currency Specific Pricing" option on the first page of the upload process.
Tip - buyers on our site can choose to view content in the currency of their choice - so we'll convert your currency.

Optional Video - if you've got a YouTube video about your business, your works or something quirky to promote yourself you can add the link and it will appear next to your content on the site.

Country Copyright Restrictions - You might only own the copyright for certain countries. If there are countries you can't sell in, just note them down.

Currency Specific Pricing - You can choose to price your content differently depending on the currency of the buyer. However, this does open you up to foreign exchange risk - it's your choice :)

Forward Locking - You need to decide if you want to apply Forward Locking. Forward Locking is a Digital Rights Management option you can use to protect your content. Forward Locking prevents a buyer from being able to pass your content onto a friend. However, applying Forward Locking will also limit the number of buyers able to purchase your content, because it is relatively new on handsets.

Step 4 - Upload your other versions

If you want to offer your content in multiple formats, click the " Add Version" link from the Manage Content screen. By offering your video files in more formats you'll match more phones!
Tip - Need to change your video into different formats and don't have the software? Try using Zamzar, an online tool that will convert for you.
Tip - Remember to label your version with a name that will help you identify it quickly from the Manage Content screen.

Just curious is the video file allowances will be raised from 2 minutes. I'm just gettting into a roughly 22 minute project that will be the first in a series. Any chance the limits will be expanded in the future?

Great site, great concept!
Cheers,
Jason

Thanks Jason

We're not strictly checking the time of uploaded videos so it's possible to upload longer running videos, as long as they fall within the upload file size limit. More and more telcos are offering "unlimited" data plans so we'll reevaluating our maximum file size limit on an ongoing basis.

We'll keep you posted in the forums and in our producer newsletters.

Thanks

Joe

A newbies experience!

What worked: Using the free file conversion as suggested on voeveo.com at http://www.zamzar.com/ more on that at the end of the post.

What didn't work: My set up is a 3 yr. old Mac PowerPC Powerbook, Final Cut Studio 1- including FCP 5.0.4, plus QuickTime Pro 7.4. I would hope and imagine not having the issues I did with Final Cut Studio 2 and if anyone has any suggestions about how to avoid the problems I did have with the older software I use I'd be very appreciative to hear! I tried every preset doing an export of a .mov file using QuickTime file conversion, all "Movie to 3G" presets (3GPP - Mobile MP4, 3GPP - Release 5, 3GPP - Release A, 3GPP2 - EZ Movie, AMC - EZ Movie,) plus various custom combinations for 3GPP using H.264 video format, H.263, etc. All of them output a file with a white frame at the end of the movie that wasn't there for a normal export for a .mov file. And if I trimmed the white frame out in QuickTime I could only save it as a .mov, not 3GP file or recompress again and get the white frame at the end. I don't know what that is but I think it has something to do with the file not working properly on a phone. There's a lot of discussion and help I received about that on the forum: http://www.voeveo.com/forums/Support/59708

Finally I tried to output the file directly from FCP using Compressor and all the mobile presets for that and they all failed with an error and didn't even output a file. That should tell me something but I don't know what exactly - i.e. what is it about the sequence in FCP that makes it so it won't format for mobile?

ANYWAY, what finally worked (thank you Annabel for testing it on your phone and saying it works perfectly!) was to take the regular .mov file I output from FCP using QT Conversion as if I were going to upload it on a website (9.8MB for a 10 second clip, H.264 compression, 640x480, all the best quality compression, key frames, etc. customized for "Movie to QuickTime Movie" option) and went to zamzar.com/ and let that website convert it for free. It was very fast. I had the link for the compressed file emailed back to me within a couple of minutes. So that's the long of it of my newbie experience! Would love to know what zamzar does so I could do it myself! Thanks for reading!
