Where are you from and why do you live there?

I am English and I live in Catalonia which is the northern part of Spain. great place to live even if it means learning 2 new languages, Catalan as well as Spanish. I used to live in Ireland before Spain which was also a good place to live, and certainly was an excellent place for my children to grow up.

I moved here for the sake of love and that's a great reason to do most things.



Apart from uploading content on voeveo, what else do you do?

I also trade on Betfair. The trading on Betfair is usually with English Premiership matches and I trade on the odds for under 2.5 goals in a game. The pattern of movement of the odds at the start of a game is fairly predictable when no early goals are scored and there are strategies if a goal does go in. I usually have the trading and profit all sewed up by 10 or 15 minutes.


I sell my photography on Microstock sites, either under the name of Wizardgold or Spondicious. Still building up the portfolio on six or seven sites.

Summertime finds me working in a camp site by the beach in Platja d'Aro to help me improve my spoken Spanish and Catalan language.



What inspires your work?

For the illustrations I am inspired by whatever I see around me. That could be natural patterns for example. I am conscious of there being a fashion at the moment for scrolly, twirling natural shapes right now and to sell things it is necessary to do stuff in the realm of what is popular as well as designs that just stretch my creativity generally. I like mechanical shapes and it influences my work somewhat also.



What kind of mobile phone do you have and why do you like it?


I have a Motorola Razr type phone and it is a year old now, does all I need it to do though. Obviously being a Mac person I aspire to the iPhone but they are not available here in Spain yet.



When you're not in the office what are you doing?


I could be at the beach, there is a lovely beach near here and it always feels good to be taking in the sea air walking along the Cami de Ronda. Photography is part of what I do I am often looking at things with an eye for finding that composition that moves me.



What's at the top of your playlist right now?


Have been watching the Welsh singer Duffy lately on the TV and what a great voice she has. Love the album by James Morrison also. Muse is always good to listen to.

Any great Internet site finds to share with our visitors?


Apart from my blogs at wizardgold.com/wordpress and footytrader.com, I would say that the Strobist lighting site by David Hobby is just marvelous.

I have been listening to the Maccast for more than a year - always good info from Adam.

I have quite a few RSS feeds on my personal Netvibes page including Microstock Diaries by Lee in Argentina.



Could you include a photo of your workspace? We love to see where our sellers create.



In terms of software and equipment I use I have a Canon 400D with a couple of Nikon strobes and a couple of umbrellas - one shoot through and one reflector type. I made my own beauty dish softbox to use with the Nikon strobes and I have a light tent for still life shots.
I am using Illustrator now after using Corel for 12 years. I miss CorelDraw for some things and like Illustrator for some of its abilities. If I was a Windows user I would use Corel in Preference to Illustrator unless I was planning to have a project run through to Flash.
Of course I use Photoshop with the photos, the program does everything bar make the tea.

When I have the time I want to get moving to Flash animations and making short video clips.

There are a lot of thing ahead creatively.....



One more thing. My son Jack Allen is a better artist than me and he will soon get into selling his work through microstock, he just has to get his exams out of the way. I plan to help him get started with the technical side of getting a microstock career up and running.
