Here are the points:

* Worldwide mobile gaming revenues are on pace to hit $4.5 billion in 2008, According to Gartner

* This represents a 16.1% increase over last year, This figure is expected to reach $6.3 billion in 2011.

* Gartner says this market segment remains full of potential because games crosses all sub-segments from lower-income consumers to business users with high-end smartphones.

* With the technological progress of Mobile phones, it can also be seen as a viable alternative to PC and console games. (Also think low PC penetration in Asia and Africa)

* Asia is currently the leading market for mobile games (surprise, surprise?). Here users expected to spend $2.3 billion in 2008 and $3.4 billion by 2011. India is expected to lead among Asian countries with this spending/growth trend

* North America is predicted to move ahead of Western Europe over the next few years and as the market grows with the increase adoption of more data services.

Targeting the specific consumer
Mobile operators and game providers can increase usage if they maximize customer profiles and devices by tailoring marketing to specific consumer segments: "target smart phone users with more-sophisticated mobile games and lower-income users with discounted or advertising-subsidized games, or even differentiated service offerings such as 'pay per game' in order to increase usage."

Very promising news for mobile game developers! What are your thoughts? And Buyers - Any thoughts about advertising-funded games?
