Is it just me or is downloading images music etc etc a nifty new way for BIG ADVERTISING AGENCIES to make their way into another market? Ive been noticing a trend over the last few decades that seemingly, everytime on new type of 'subscription required technology' becomes commonplace, advertisers suddenly have a new avenue to chase down their audience until their audience again finds a way to evade them.
Advertising is always a controversial subject, but its something to consider, that advertising WILL likely happen through sites like this.perhaps sneaking in some code when customer dwnloads product.
That said, you could possible do a 'vote ' yes to advertising or 'no ' to not.for your members. If nothing else, positive or negative, its more publicity for Voeveo.A vote would definitley tell you where your users/members are at, and if its good, all this is something to consider in boosting your business... If all this exists already, ignore me, i dont even own a cellphone! (I know I know,) Having said that, Im an artist not a business person. I have my own logo in all of my images in the hopes that people will eventually come familiar with my art, and i can finally become somewhat successful :P
Id love to explore this topic with whoever is in

Hi murals2go,
Great post! We'd also love to hear what other buyers and sellers think on this topic.

Another way people can register their thoughts and ways to improve the site is by participating in our survey here.

Oooh boy! Nice topic.

yep, believe me advertising and how to deal with it is something we are constantly debating here at voeveo. This covers ads on the site, ads on the phone and so on.

One thing I'd add is that voeveo is not a subscription service, and in fact all of us here loathe them. It was part of the reason for starting the service.

The big challenge for any site starting out on the web is how to generate revenue. Ads are always a big bonus. voeveo does have an underlying business model though in which we charge a service fee so we aren't a site that has to rely solely on ads.

The question is how can (if at all) ads benefit the sellers and buyers on voeveo, and that is where we would love to get feedback. ie, ad supported demo downloads, or ad supported downloads in general. If someone downloads something for free but has to watch an ad or look at a banner, then the seller who attracted that transaction should share in the ad revenue no?

Are there useful ads for buyers as well, ie instead of showing the latest dating service there is ads to things relevant to buyers and sellers here, games, phones, other services for independent artists.

Another big issue for us is the sms notifications/text messages and our upcoming mobile site.

We currently include sms costs as part of the sale cost and it is transparently broken down in the cart, a few cents is all. But we want to add other other services that make use of sms (all optional of course). Should we include ads in the mobile site to offset this somehow.....

And then how does this affect layout, user experience, etc....

so yes, any feedback, thoughts appreciated. :)

This is an interesting dilemma that most internet content or services sites face ........ in my view advertising that is targeted and most likely of interest or relevance to the general audience is OK. Its those annoying banal pop up crap adds for an over 18 site etc etc that just drive members away. BTW the 42 Below ads on this site are fine - a humorous diversion (and damn good product actually - if anyone has not tried 42 Below Manuka Honey vodka thats just sad)

Reality is that it takes people and cash to run a really well serviced site - one that is run by real live people, not automated bloody messages - and you have to pay the bills. Only other option is to charge more ........... so nah, I prefer to see selected targeted ads that are of interest. For instance the latest release models of smartphones makes sense...
