The significant event in Waipu’s history was the arrival in 1853 of the Rev. Norman McLeod with a party of Scottish and Nova Scotian settlers. The story of one of the most remarkable sagas in the story of New Zealand’s settlement by Europeans is told at the House of Memories in Waipu, an intriguing local museum. Waipu remembers its Scottish heritage too with annual Highland Games. See the map.
