Team Q&A – Meet Mike

Where are you from originally and where do you live now?

I was born here in Wellington and, alas, I'm still here. I lived in London and Dublin for a few years, which is how I got into the mobile industry.

What do you do at voeveo?

I'm the Community Guide, so my work mostly revolves around communicating directly with our sellers and answering any forum queries people might have. I also do a lot of site testing and research, and am always updating our ever expanding list of mobile phone profiles and international networks.

What's some of your favourite content on voeveo?

Anything by Chocolate Log is really cool - something about their quirkiness really appeals to me. I also really like Pixelthis's flash games, and Oopie and Funky Fresh Profiles have both been uploading some really great wallpapers. Plus I really like the V2 music content - it means I can listen to and write about Bloc Party and the Datsuns as part of my job!

What kind of mobile phone do you have and why do you like it?

I currently have a Nokia 6151 - a great all round phone. It even has Flash Lite pre-installed, which is great for games. Nokia's are great phones for the average Joe - they're easy to use, compatible with a wide array of content, and generally have a really good battery life.

When you're not in the office what are you doing?

Usually something music related - out buying CD's, playing in my band, going to gigs, or at home listening to something. I can also often be found at Wellington Zoo catching up with my monkey friends.

What's at the top of your playlist right now?

It changes from week to week, but lately I've been listening to a lot of Teenage Fanclub, Otis Redding, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Son Volt, the MC5, Bedouin Soundclash, Elliott Smith, Muddy Waters, Death Cab for Cutie, and the Delays, to name a few. Plus Wilco are never far from the top of my playlist either.

Any great Internet site finds?

Well, I'm a fairly regular visitor to www.nme.com and www.pitchforkmedia.com, but they're hardly little known gems. For some reason I really like www.cuteoverload.com. Its so cute it'll make you want to puke. Oh, and also www.themightyboosh.com, because I just had to mention the Mighty Boosh somewhere!
